Biography

William Walton

Sir William Walton, born in Oldham in 1902 to musically inclined parents, exhibited remarkable talent early on. Walton's versatility is evident in works ranging from symphonies to film scores. A prominent figure in British arts, he was knighted in 1951. His marriage to Susan Gil Passo led to the creation of the acclaimed Italian gardens "I giardini la Mortella" in Ischia.

The Project

William Walton Edition

Oxford University Press, following the completion of the William Walton Edition, published a revised edition of the definitive catalogue of works by Sir William Walton. This catalougue is the most comprehensive source of musical and documentary information relevant to the British composer's life and work.
Walton's opus is now available to scholars and performers in a definitive edition based on a careful philological analysis.
